Arts-connected learning plays a valuable role in helping students achieve academic success in school.

Schools that value and support the arts in the curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular areas demonstrate significant improvement in terms of academic success for the students. In addition, arts-connected learning is a pedagogy that fosters a positive school culture and builds resiliency in students.  Learning through the arts offers a means for students to engage in work that is both personal and creates an environment that is supportive of risk-taking, making mistakes and learning through experience.

Learning through the arts is inclusive, differentiated, and student-centered by its very nature.

Students who have experience learning through the arts are learning how to be creative and innovative. Creativity is a skill best nurtured and taught through the arts. Arts-connected learning is based in play and teaches students to value both the process and the product, beginning with the end in mind and learning to adapt as the process of creation continues.  For this reason, learning in and through the arts is essential to developing 21st century learners.

Nova Scotian students will benefit from enhanced employability and interpersonal skills with emphasis on collaboration, problem solving, and process driven work that leads to a final performance and/or product.  The arts play a strong role in improving student success, school culture and the development of the 21st Century learner.
